Jennergy’s Latest: Experience North Kitsap Branding & Logo Project
It’s been awhile since we talked about what we’ve been up to in the Jennergy office, and we’re proud to announce the unveiling of the logo that we designed for the North Kitsap Tourism Consortium (NKTC) — Experience North Kitsap. It’s been underway for a little while now, and we just got the go-ahead to talk about our process and unveil the results.
The Experience North Kitsap project was headed by the NKTC, a group of local business owners and local community representatives including chambers, who wanted to bring more regional and national visitors to the North Kitsap Peninsula, and raise awareness of the experience that North Kitsap has to offer. Initially, they didn’t have a name, much less a tagline, so this played a big part in the design process, as well as the rest of their brand new identity.
While they were without a name, the members of the Consortium did know that they wanted the name, logo, and tagline to encompass the spirit of the North Kitsap Peninsula and stay true to their mission statement: “Over the life of the plan, more Regional, National and International visitors will be aware of and visit the North Kitsap Peninsula. This will contribute to increased tourism yield, greater dispersal of visitors and result in sustainable economic development.”
The imagery for the logo needed to include some key elements such as water and nature, and the client wanted to use colors that were bright, happy, and inviting.
To kick off the process, we brainstormed with our copywriter to come up with possible names and tag lines for the project. Since we were essentially starting from scratch, we were able to conceptualize the entire scope of the organization and come up with names that really spoke to the consortium’s mission and the spirit of the area, without fighting through a name that had been created for a different purpose. Once we came up with several different naming concepts, one was chosen by a committee of members of the NKTC. Once the name and tagline were chosen, the concepts for logos and logotype followed.
The challenge for the logo design was to create something that captured the spirit of the North Kitsap Peninsula into one strong concept. There is a lot to see and do in North Kitsap, so it was a real creative effort on our part. The NKTC also wanted us to try to incorporate the map of the area into the design, if possible. Ever tried to do that? Yes, a big challenge. Jennergy presented 13 concepts to the group, and the NKTC quickly decided on the final logo choice that they loved.
When creating this logo, we decided to put a creative, subtle twist so the map wasn’t too overwhelming — we simply reversed it out in the shape of the logo. While it incorporated the woodsy feel of the North Kitsap Peninsula, it still brought in the water and the shape of North Kitsap as the subtle center focus. The colors that were chosen — a soft green, a soft but bright beautiful blue, and deep warm brown — encompass the features of the Northwest, but maintain a fun, fresh, and inviting feel.
The result is a well-rounded name and logo that fully encompasses the mission of the NKTC, and will work well in the multitude of media that it will be used in. We’re currently working on a fully customized CMS website that will power this new organization into the digital world and give them tools to grow and change.“This is the second experience I have had working with the Jennergy team; they are consistently professional, creative and deliver an exceptional product. Jennergy strives to understand the clients’ needs and visions and consequently hits right on target with the logo/website they design.” — Julie McAfee, North Kitsap Tourism Consortium
